Alliott is a skillful writer with more depth than the book jacket reflects. Populated by some eccentric/non-traditional characters the heroine who is a widow of four years & an antique dealer drew me in and kept me rooting for her even when she disappointed me. I admired her honesty about the challenges of her loss, her loneliness & raising two little boys. Her diverse friend group whose support has sustained her continue to hold her up while giving her tough feedback about the decisions she makes about leaving London to live in a too good to be true home provided by her mother in law.
Enter the dark evil elements while Lucy is not looking she pursues a married man. I did not expect the plot to be so layered and I didn’t see the denouncement coming at me at full speed but I loved the ending to balance the grimness in our present world.
