An old steel plate engraved picture of the "Bombardment & Capture of Forts Walker and Beauregard, Port Royal, SC" produced sometime during or after the Civil War. The picture was made either for inclusion in a limited edition book or individual sale. The picture illustrated is the print the winner will received. (Note--I scanned it dark to magnify age discoloring that has happened with this over 125 year old print.) The picture illustrates the Nov. 7, 1861 battle and early Union victory. In foreground is Confederate artillery men being killed by an explosion under the Confederate flag apparently fired from Union ships circling the fort shown to the right in the picture. Printed under the title and date is the very small line that reads, "Englraved by Geo. E. Perine, 362 Broadway, New York" and below that "Entered according to an act of Congress d)1862 by Hurlbut,Willaims & Co. in the Clerks Office of the District Court of Connecticut" The picture is 9 x 5 1/2 inches in size. Also under the picture Underneath the picture Union ships Vandalia, Susquhanna,Seminole, Wabash, and Bienville are identified.
