The listing, ANTIQUE SOUTH AMER. DRINKING GOURD W/ BRASS AND BRASS CLAW FEET has ended.

Over 100 yr old drinking gourd on brass stand. The gourd alone measures 5" Tall x approx 4" in diameter with stand the piece is 5 1/2" Tall x 4 1/2" Wide. Etched and very rare and unique. The feet are claw like and the tops are faces. AWESOME antique!

Did some research. The country outlined is Brazil. And I believe the man depicted is Getulio Vargas who was a dictator of Brazil 1930-1945. And then elected democratically in 1951 to be president until he committed suicide in 1954. He was very well liked and admired from what I read. He served 18 years as leader of the country. I would assume this is a souvenir mate gourd bought by a traveler but I cant find it anywhere. I find it fascinating.
