This is a Wireless Router - You can plug up to 4 Computers into it or use another Router (Cable Only) to add more ports. The Yellow Port is for plugging your Cable or DSL Modem into so you aren't limited to just 1 computer on your DSL/Cable Modem ONLY. The wireless then is an option for Wireless Devices such as iPhone, iPad, Cell Phones that have WiFi, Laptops, Notebooks, Tablets and even desktops with PCI or USB Wireless Devices. Hope this helps the listing and answers many questions people may have.

No problem. Always trying to suggest things and help people. Some accept and thank me and some consider it rude or something and hide it. Why I have no clue. You are totally welcome. Need some IT Help just send me a message.

I hear you....Hey, I always appreciate helpful comments but I don't stand for rudeness. I appreciate the IT help offer.... My hubby was a SE with an IT company for years...I tend to leave that part to him but Listia is "my domain"..lol...Like I said, it makes for a happy existence :D

You may need to check with your provider on that since I'm not sure of the differences between the US & Canada

Thanks! Dual band offers more flexibility than a single band when you're setting up a network. Good luck on your upcoming offering!

According to CNET, this has a range of 300 ft for 2.4 Ghz band and 250 ft for the 5 Ghz band. Of course, best performance will be less than at these maximums and will vary depending on physical obstructions. Hope this helps.

You dont happen to know how far this will transmit? Max range?

I'm not sure of the actual range but we used it in a 2 story 2800 sq ft house without a problem. I think my daughter had used wifi on her laptop in the yard as well. Hope that Chris1336's response answers your question.

Is this a cable or DSL router? Thanks
Mar 7th, 2013 at 8:17:24 AM PST by

We used it for cable but I think you can use it for DSL as well. You would connect it to the DSL modem with the ethernet cable. You may want to double check on the Netgear site to make sure it works with what you have.

This router should act as both modem and router, no other equiptment needed. CABLE & DSL basically the same thing.

I need to look more carefully, on the Netgear site if you look at the product image backview on the spec sheet, it shows the yellow port. It states connect to cable/ dsl modem. Hope this helps.
