a dwarf, red variety of the native prairie flower 
also known as calliopsis grows only about a foot 
tall. one of the great things about a dwarf flower 
is that they do not generally require any staking, 
and so will stand upright better than the taller 
counterpart. 
excellent cut flower, good for low-lying or soggy 
areas like ditches. also is okay when the ground 
gets dry. produces a profusion of blooms all summer. 
will grow in sandy or rocky soil.
