Here is a very nice .50 Cents State of New York Stock Transfer Tax Stamp. Do not know what year it was put out, but guessing around the 1930's. It is in excellent condition!

To distinguish the year of this stamp one would have to: 1st, check the perforations with a perforation gauge. 2nd, determine if the paper is water-marked (and with which mark). The check a good catalogue (old ones are cheap and great for help in identification of classic stamps.) [The prices change all the time so you only need a new and costly catalogue to get current pricing when you decide to sell.] There were a number of variations from 1916 through 1932 appearing to be the same stamp, in this long running series.
Can't tell these apart without measuring and careful inspection.
I recommend this to everyone interested in collecting stamps: You need a perforation gauge, watermark detector & fluid, and stamp tongs. They are inexpensive "must-haves" for every collector to detect which stamps they actually have, not overlook the differences, nor harm what they have found. Happy stamping!

Thanks for the info! The only book I have is a 2005 Scott Specialized Catalong of United States Stamps and Covers. Does not even mention these Stock Transfer Stamps with the other Stock Transfers. I have a Perforation Gauge, watermark detector and everything else. Will try to find a catalog that lists these stamps! Thanks again!
