these arent graphic novels, they are simply comics.

These are considered TBP -trade paperbacks or as some people call them, graphic novels. I see people use the terms as the same thing all the time. They are prestige format which means unlike a comic, they are more like a book with a cardstock cover, stitched or glued binding (an actual book spine) and glossy color pages. Comics have paper covers, stapled binding and newsprint pages. They aren't the same thing.
