I like to use a thread wire called wild fire. For 50 yards of it it runs about $8-14.
There is a simalure one called fire line ....I think, and it runs about $7-10. It is a wire thread that is very strong. There are different thicknesses depending on what you make :)

I prefer not elastic...it tends to fray on the ends and the elastic wears quickly!
