The listing, REAL "DEPUTY SHERIFF- L.F.D." BADGE,POSSIBLY FROM PENNSYLVANIA???? has ended.
This came from an estate sale that had a lot of things from the Mendenhall family and Town in Pennsylvania, Kennett Square, to be exact. There are letters from the Mendenhall family going back to before the Civil War, before Stamps, when it just said "present" which meant "present in person to the Master of the House" or "Mistress", for that matter!! Anyways, there are items from generations of this family kept by someone who apparently died and that was the end of the interest in the Collection. I Find it fascinating, tons of photos from 160's and amazing history. This badge is clearly from a mre recent era, i believe.I assume that someone was a Member of the Volunteer Fire Department and also a Deputy Sheriff in a itty bitty tiny leetle town(thank you Rosanne Rosannadanna). A good citizen in the countryside, where there is no budget for the basic infrastructure like fire and police, volunters are a necessity. but maybe this badge belonged to a deputy sheriff in the family, I will never know!!!! So, if you live in a town that starts with an "L", you can wear this proudly, heck, no matter what the name of your town or your reasoning, it is a real badge. It is heavy and has a beautiful winged Eagle sculpted on Top and in the center the Firemen's hat and Ax and Ladder and Hose, a VERY COOL PIECE!!!!!
