CATCH THE FIRE 1st edition !!
The Toronto Blessing: an experience of renewal and revival
by Guy Chevreau and preface by John Arnott
Details:
Catch the Fire explores the remarkable work of God known as "The Toronto Blessing." Newspapers, television and radio reports have been buzzing with stories of whole congregations laughing, weeping, and falling under the power of the Holy Spirit. Its effects are rippling throughout the world, transforming individuals and local churches everywhere.
This is an early book on the Toronto Blessing Revival that began on January 22, 1994 in a small church at the end of the runway of the Toronto Airport. God visited that church in a powerful way and it continues to this day.
This church has had revival services every night since 1/20/94 (except Mondays) and visitors continue flock to this church from all over the world.
Guy is a historian who gives us an important overview of how such religious phenomena occurred in the 1st (1740) & 2nd (1800) Great Awakenings in America in great numbers. He mentions the writings of America's greatest theologian, Jonathan Edwards, who defended the First Great Awakening, despite the physical manifestations that certainly seem odd and even offensive to the eye--much as the wild behavior of the Christians did on Pentecost to many onlookers.
Shaking and falling down happened to believers in the Bible and in church history. Quakers quaked ( shook). Shakers shook. Like all reform movements, they were not perfect, but they produced good fruit in many respects. The Toronto Blessing seems to be part of that string of renewal movements in the Church which often shocks the faithful but produces unquestionably wonderful results in the hearts and lives of many.
The Apostle John fell at the feet of Jesus as a dead man when he saw Jesus in the Book of Revelation. (Revelation 1:17)
Mortal bodies often do not respond normally when encountering the strong Presence of Almighty God.
