The listing, Egyptian Personalized Sterling Silver Cartouche w/ Hieroglyphic Symbols has ended.
Up for bid is a cartouche, which I believe is sterling. It does not stick to my strong magnet, and there are two symbols stamped into the back.
I have not been able to identify them. Even with my loop, they are hard to decipher. There is a photo, taken with my daughter’s phone, which is better than mine. At first, I thought it might be white gold, because it came from an estate with very high-end jewelry, but I am sticking with sterling.
Pharaohs wore cartouches designed as amulets to fend off evil spirits and bring good luck. The oval or frame, depicts a rope, and the horizontal baseline illustrates the rope tied together at the bottom to create a loop.
It measures 1-3/4". This piece is in good condition. Smoke-free, as always.
