Up for bid is a cartouche, which I believe is sterling. It does not stick to my strong magnet, and there are two symbols stamped into the back.I have not been able to identify them. Even with my loop, they are hard to decipher. There is a photo, taken with my daughter’s phone, which is better than mine. At first, I thought it might be white gold, because it came from an estate with very high-end jewelry, but I am sticking with sterling.
Pharaohs wore cartouches designed as amulets to fend off evil spirits and bring good luck. The oval or frame, depicts a rope, and the horizontal baseline illustrates the rope tied together at the bottom to create a loop.
It measures 1-3/4". This piece is in good condition. Smoke-free, as always.
