could you pls wrap it in foil before placing in the envelope-this prevents thieves from stealing the card balance through the mail system...neat trick...
I will place in thin box and padded envelope when mailing. This is what usps recommends for mailing gift cards to prevent theft and tracking which I am doing also.
It says for foil : Wrapping a gift card in aluminum foil does not prevent its theft from the mail, and in some cases, it can make the envelope more conspicuous to thieves. The primary threat is physical mail theft, not wireless skimming.
Why foil does not prevent gift card theft Wireless skimming is not the primary threat. While gift cards with a "tap-to-pay" feature use RFID technology, the signal can only be read at close range—often a few inches. The biggest risk to a gift card in the mail comes from criminals physically opening the envelope, not from a high-tech skimmer. A "Faraday cage" is not reliable with foil. An effective Faraday cage, which is a metal enclosure that blocks electromagnetic fields, is difficult to create with crinkled-up household foil. At best, foil may only reduce the range of a scanner, not block it entirely. Foil can make the envelope obvious. Thieves who target mail often look for envelopes with an unusual thickness or a metallic object inside that suggests a gift or valuables. The foil makes the envelope stand out and can attract unwanted attention. How to safely mail a gift card To protect a gift card from theft in the mail, your best strategy is to make it less obvious and harder to steal. Disguise the card. Avoid mailing a gift card inside a greeting card, which makes its contents obvious to thieves. Instead, tuck it discreetly inside a piece of thin cardboard or inside a magazine to obscure its outline. Use a padded or secure envelope. A standard envelope is easily torn by sorting machinery or a thief. A padded envelope or a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Gift Card envelope is more durable. Use a traceable and insured mailing service. For gift cards of high value, pay for a shipping option that includes a tracking number and insurance. This allows you to follow its journey and potentially recover the value if it is lost or stolen.
