The Cowboys acquired Gesek in a trade with the Los Angeles Raiders six days before the opening game of the 1990 season. "Gesek came on and really played well for us,
" said Cowboys head coach Jimmy
Johnson. He played in the second game of the season, started at left guard in the third game, and became the starting right guard in the fifth game. His presence provided added protection for quarterback Troy Aikman and helped rookie running back Emmitt Smith establish the Cowboys' running game. Gesek was originally the Raiders 10th round draft choice in the 1987 NFL draft.
