Tamarind is a leguminous tree in the family Fabaceae indigenous to tropical Africa. The tamarind tree produces pod-like fruit that contains an edible pulp used in cuisines around the world. Other uses of the pulp include traditional medicine and metal polish.
The plant is widely distributed throughout the tropics.
Scratch the seeds with sandpaper and soak them overnight, then, plant 1/2" deep in rich well drained soil. Use a heating mat, and, overhead grow lamp to keep the soil between 70° and 75°F. All tropical seeds can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 8 months to sprout. Don't give up, they WILL grow.
