The listing, Rare! 2002 DARRYL KILE (RIP 2002) Cardinals #'d 57/100 has ended.
This is a 2002 Donruss Fan Club "Credits" card.
There were only 100 of this card made.
This one is serial numbered #57/100.
Some people remember Darryl Kile as the first active player to die midseason since 1978, but he was much more than just a tragedy.
He was a top-notch pitcher.
Kile won 133 games in his 11 1/2 seasons in the majors, twice finishing in the top-5 in Cy Young voting. He was also a workhorse, pitching over 219 innings on 5 occasions, including 255 2/3 in 1997. He is best known for his time with the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also pitched for the Rockies (but no one wants to be remembered for the time they pitched with the Rockies).
On June 2, 2002, Darryl Kile died in a Chicago hotel room of coronary failure before a game. The Cardinals cancelled that day's game with the Cubs, and to this day the Cardinals fly a "DK57" banner in the Busch Stadium bullpen in his honor.
Thanks for looking, happy bidding, and good luck!
