Are both ends the same size?

No - one end is a USB port, the other is made to connect to a printer, video recorder etc. It says that USB v.2.0 is also backward compatible with USB 1.1 - meaning that 2.0 cables also work perfectly in devices originally configured for the original USB 1.1 standards. Hope that helps!
