The listing, Azurite Sterling Ring ~ Size 6, 47.5CT has ended.
This is a very simple plain ring that has a lot of color. It is a beautiful blue-green/green-blue depending on the light. It has a matte-finish look to it but that seems to draw the eye into it. The silver band is a straight wide band about 1/8 inch wide with the stone mount standing about a .25" high.
Azurite is one of the truly blue gemstones. It is usually associated with Malachite. It takes its name from azure meaning blue, Azurite is sometimes referred to as Chessylite after the famous locale in Chessy, France.
Composed of Copper Hydroxyl Carbonate, Azurite actually has the same chemical composition of Malachite and the two are often closely associated. All Azurite will eventually become Malachite with time given the right temperature, pressure, and humidity. Usually identified by its softness (3.5 - 4.0 on the Moh's Hardness Scale), it also fizzes with a mild acid solution (as do all carbonates, e.g. pearls will dissolve in vinegar). With that said care should be used when wearing Azurite jewelry as it is not durable enough for everyday wear, like do not wear while cleaning, washing dishes, bathing, running marathons, etc.
