sorry I thought I answered this question, there are prongs at the end of the bail and you put your pendant into the prongs, then the top loop is used to put your cord or ribbon thru

I've used these on many pendants and have had no problem, I've used them on large pendants but also like them on smaller pendants to add length when I want it to appear more substantial
