Tony Stewart joined the United States Marine Corps for a special salute to the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or ESGR. The entire program was backed by Richard Childress Racing, which supplied Stewart's No. 29 ESGR/USMC Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the 300 Mile
Nascar Busch Series race at California Speedway on May 1, 2004.
After starting in 6th position, Stewart posted a runner-up finish in the race.
