Description
The listing, 12 Mexican Sour Gherkin Cucumbers shaped like baby watermelons has ended.
This heirloom is a tiny ornamental cucumber that is in a different plant family then most cucumbers. The fruit grow about 1" long and 3/4" wide. They are dark green with light green stripes and have a very mild cucumber flavor with a slightly sour, citrus taste. Start seeds indoors in peat pots 2-5 weeks before transplanting outside. Cover lightly with loose soil. Keep moist not wet. 75 days until harvest.
Incredible, small cucumber-like fruit are shaped like baby watermelons. They are good added to salads or can be pickled. They have a cucumber-like taste with a touch of lemon. The ornamental vines have tiny leaves and flowers and are perfect for the cottage garden. Very unique and fun for kids. Huge yields.
Melothria pendula is creeping cucumber and it turns black when its completely ripe and is considered poisonous in different parts of the US..... Mexican sour gherkins are Melothria scabra.....They are different and have no laxative effects nor are they dangerous :) I have a different species for sale on my auction Cucumis anguria which is an Indian mini gherkin....... All different species SweetP7..... Just wanted to give some accurate information so everyone knows what they are bidding on :)
