“marvel of peru” (mirabilis jalapa)
“four o’clocks” are an old-fashioned annual, whose name comes from the fact that the flowers open in the afternoon. the multi-colored trumpet shaped flowers stay open from late afternoon, and all night until morning, when they close again. this mix includes pink, cream, violet, red, and rose, in single as well as multi-colored flowers. they are very heavy bloomers and grow very quickly. they bloom from late spring to early fall, and the fragrant flowers are sure to be something that hummingbirds and butterflies will notice!
they are very easy to grow from seed, and prefer average to fertile soil, but can tolerate a variety of well-drained, but moist soil conditions. they grow best in a location in full sun, but can thrive in partial shade as well.
