(NEW!) How to Live with a Neurotic Dog by Stephen Baker (HB/DJ)

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR NEUROTIC DOG TO ‘SIT’:

The problem is not getting a dog to ‘Sit’-it’s getting him to stand in the first place. Once you’ve done that, the ‘sitting’ part is easy.

Step 1: Take a firm grip on the scruff of his neck, or better yet, by pulling on his leash. The purpose here is to keep his head up at a safe distance from the ground.
Step 2: Let his backside sink down while you are holding his head up. This is your dog's NATURAL POSITION. He will maintain this pose as long as you are able to keep his head up.
Step 3: Repeat as needed.
Note: Once you slacken your grip the dog will, of course, fall to the ground. Gravity.

HOW TO TEACH YOUR NEUROTIC DOG TO SLEEP ELSEWHERE:

Does your dog insist on sleeping on-or even IN your bed with you?

Step 1: Start by gently, undulating your body and pushing. Step 2: Gradually escalate to yanking the blankets off.
Step 3: Bat him with pillows. Repeat as necessary.
Step 4: Jump up and down on the mattress.

At this point some dogs (those known as ‘watch dogs’) will SLOWLY OPEN one or both eyes, although they will probably not be willing to leave the bed.

Step 5: Rock the bed by lifting one end, then dropping it firmly on the floor.
Step 6: Pull off the mattress.
Step 7: Turn the whole bed over. This will let him know you mean business.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR NEUROTIC DOG TO "COME":

Step 1: Get the collar on the pet.
Stwp 2: Tie one end of the cord to the collar and hold on to the other end.
Step 3: Let the dog get away from you about 10 or 15 feet. If he won’t wake up or he just won’t go away,  YOU be the the bigger person and WALK AWAY.
Step 4: Then say “Come here!” in a commanding tone.
Step 5: Drag him as much as 10-15 feet. Work towards 20 feet or desired distance.

If all else fails, feed him. Problem solved.
