Active Pad Reader by Active Minds is a very nice toy for pre-school age kids just learning to read. It actually will read to your child ad they use the pen to touch pictures and words and stories. This one comes with nine books and eight cartridges. All the books have a cartridge you put in the reader, except one and it came with the game and is already loaded in, so it did not have a cartridge.
This reader will run off of batteries or an AC cord which is provided for you. One important thing to know is that if the batteries are low, the reader will not work well. It doesn't respond to the pen much of the time. But, as long as it has good batteries or is plugged in... it works fantastic. Some of the books show more wear and pages are lose, but they all work fine when placed in the reader. Lots of fun and educational too!!
