The listing, Tatting Pattern Books 1909 by Priscilla has ended.

The book is not cut in half. I have to do that so it will fit on listia. I know the shipping looks high, but I am just breaking even because I laid out a bundle to get these. They are 36 pages so the postage is higher and I paid ove a hundred dollars to get a few of them. I have a loot of ladies want to do tatting. So I paid more than I could afford for these43. So don't complain. Just don't bid. There is book #1 and book #2 from 1909 which is over a hunbdred years ago! If you win the bid you can take your choece of them. If you want both of them you can have them for $12. That is the best I can do. I can't decide which I like best. They are both so good.

This little picture of e is from the cover of one of my patterns. I knitted all that: sweater coatk, hat, mittens, scarf and purse. I made the sweater for mom when she was in a nursing home after a stroke. Shortly after I gave it to her I inherited it back. She did like it but soon she didn't even know who I was. My father died whe4n I was in 8th grade and mom and I did whatever needed to be done since then. That's why the car repairs, and household fixing. My brother was only in first grade then but he learned quickly too. When there is no one else to do it, you just have to do it.

I am just learning how to do tatting, My great grandmother used to do tatting and I would hate for that not to be passed on to future generations.
So it is great that you listed this item if you have others I might be interested in them also. I do an assortment of crafts, I embrodery, I crochet, and I also knit.

You sound a lot like me. Mom taught me to embroider and crochet at age 7. I started sewing as soon as I was tall enough for my feet to reach the treadle. I made my own doll clothes when I was still playing with dolls. I never met a craft that I didn't try it. I taught myself knitting when I was in college so I could make my firtst Christmas stocking just because it was so pretty. All the Nancy's Nits patterns are my own designs. So are the crochet, sew, plastic canvas ones. I do have the oldies which are not my own. too. I also have done woodwork, minor car stuff, fix electric appliances and toilets.

Tatting is about the only thing I don't do. Maybe I'll try it when I have the time. I have 5 tatting books total. They are so hard to find and no one seems to have as many as I do. I believe in keeping these things alive too.

That is awesome that you learned to do so many different things, sorry about the reason why you had to learn a lot of those things. But I definitely understand where you are coming from. My mom taught all four of us kids how to cook, clean, sew, and how to repair stuff for ourselves. My father taught us how to fish, cut wood safely, how to protect ourselves from harm, and how to survive on our own if need be, he also taught us how to build things so if we for whatever reason we need some form of shelter, we would know how. I am very lucky for having such wonderful parents that wanted each of to know how to be self sufficient. And I am so glad that you had a mother that was similiar in mind. Sorry that your father wasn't there to help with that. I agree it is hard to find tatting books so we are very lucky when we are able to obtain them. So I am greatly appreciative that you are willing to pass some on to others that are also interested in the craft.

One day mom was standing on a chair in the closet to fix a light. I was there to hand her things. Little brother said "Why don't you ever let me do things like that?" She got down off the chair and handed him the screwdriver. She never had to do it again. If he wasn't home and it was important I did it too. She only watched that we turned the juice off in the basement. The church rummage sale had a lot of appliances and they got some that didn't work when tested and they put them in a box not for sale. Mom asked for them and came home with a dozen or so. He fixed them all. I still do lamp cords and small stuff. I don't climb ladders though. When I was in college the other girls went home with 2 suitcases on holidays. One was clothes to wear and one was clothes for their moms to mend. Ha! I had packed a few spools of thread needles etd. I did my own. I once was driving to the grocery store and as I went down the highway a light changed and I almost hit the car in front of me. Lucky I was going slow. My brakes went to the floorboards. I very slowly and carefully drove up the next block to the K Mart store and parked safely away from others. I went in and bought a can of brake fluid and filled the resevoir right there in the parking lot. One of my cousins, a boy in his teens used to help his father with cars. He tried to help my mom one time. Her car wouldn't start. He said he would pour some gas in it into the carburetor. Mom was watching him and had to stop him when he was going to pour it in the radiator! She didn't do much with cars, but she knew that. Once we had a car that almost burned oil faster than gas. Mom and I carried gallons of oil and a funnel with us and we even drove 3 or 4 hundred miles stopping to add oil. You gotta do what you gotta do.
