This sparkly little necklace will be a hit with anyone who likes purple and bling. The 7mm Quartz Glass Twists are dark purple and they catch the light and flash with every movement. On either side of the Quartz Glass is a 3mm Tibetan Silver bead. In between these are 3x4mm tubes of Hematite which attempt to outshine the Quartz! There is a Sterling Silver spring ring clasp.
The necklace is 17 3/4 inches.
Questions & Comments
A bead can't be both quartz and glass. Quartz is a stone that grows naturally. So are they glass?
You are correct, but in this case the name "quartz glass" is what they were called when I bought them and it is also the correct name for this man made item. They have the same mineral and chemical composition as quartz. It is also called "fused silica". You can read more here: http://www.pgo-online.com/intl/katalog/quartz_glass.html
You could also call it simulated quartz. Kind of like Cubic Zirconia and Yttrium Aluminium Garnets (YAG) are called simulated or lab created Diamonds. Today the process of creating artificial or simulated stone is so improved that most of them can not be differentiated from the real thing. Some of the newest processes to make diamonds is so exact that the stone has to go through extensive and time consuming testing to determine if it is earth made or man made.
Thank you for clarifying. I see alot of misuse with the words quartz and glass together. I had to say something or i would have regretted it. Quartz is not glass!!! People use glass beads alot and say crystal or quartz, and it is really not what the buyer is getting. I understand now what you are saying
I understand. I have been selling on ebay for about 5 years, as well as buying beads on there. It is one of my pet peeves on how people don't understand the terms they are using. For example, Jade is often misnamed. People go by the color, if it red, it is called a ruby, or purple they call it amethyst. Then there is glass pearls! Talk about an oxymoron! LOL I suppose I could have called these simulated Quartz, but then they are supposed to be made out of quartz silica, or even from quartz "seeds". Again many terms used for man made gemstones.
We do a great deal of research on beads we buy and always try to represent them for what we know them to be. If I buy something that is labeled as amethyst and can plainly see that it is jade, then that is what I will call it.
Thanks for asking. Hopefully now everyone else will know what "quartz glass" is and can feel confident that I do my best to correctly name the gemstones I use in all my jewelry.
I have been the fortunate winner of a couple of Dianne55's auctions and the receiver of a gift from a friend of one of her designs. Let me tell you, her jewelry is very good quality and wears well. You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED when you're the winner of her auctions.
