The listing, Set of 2 blank greeting cards altered with vintage postage stamps - madonnas and saints, Spain has ended.
Up for auction is a set of two very special greeting cards, as pictured, which come with matching ivory envelopes.
I purchased these lovely black paper cutwork cards at a major retailer -- they came in a set of ten. The front has the cutwork scalloped edged, the back is just plain black, and the paper is a nice heavy cardstock. Inside is an ivory folded cardstock sheet (glued down at the back top edge) for your message. The cards came this way. No logos, no messages, just perfect!
Normally when I alter cards I do a little bit more to them than just glue down some vintage cancelled stamps, but in this case, honestly, that's all I've done. But I think I've found some stamps in my collection that go especially well with the black cutwork. The first two pictures are scans of the cards. Any blurs or splotches on the black part of the card are from my scanner. I cleaned it, but I still see spots...The other photos show the cards standing and open. The cards (and their envelopes) measure 5" by 3.5."
Card 1 features Saint Teresa of Avila, on the Spain stamp and Beata Ana, also a Carmelite, on the Ecuador stamp.
Card 2 features two Spain stamps, one with a Madonna, the other, a Madonna with child.
All of the stamps are cancelled and used.
The color black and the cutwork reminded me of a black lace mantilla....I was lucky I had (I feel) the perfect stamps to accompany the cards.
I used acid free glue to affix the stamps.
Thanks for looking, and thanks for your bids.
