On August 17, Rosenthal suffered a tear in his ulnar
collateral ligament and would effectively end his 2017
season after requiring Tommy John surgery. He would
finish his 2017 season with a 3.40 ERA and 11 saves
in 50 games for the Cardinals.
Rosenthal was given his outright release on November 6,
2017 as he was expected to miss most of 2018 and
become a free agent.
