Yes ma'am it is Alabama & where we usually go to the beach. 15 minutes from us. Do they rent it out when they aren't there? Orange Beach has grown so much in past few yrs. I swear they have a traffic light every 500 ft now!! We started coming down here 35 yrs ago. 1 gas station on corner by main GS beach. Now they are putting condos on every grain of sand. So glad we were coming here before the tourist boom!! Brought the kids. It was the best kept secret of the south. Everyone in Tn. coming down to the southern Riviera back in the day. No crowds No tourists. It was so nice!! Beautiful sugar white sandy beaches... We rent a condo if we want to go on vacation. LOL!! Actually, we saw the beach more when we did vacay here. Now living here, we don't go as often cuz he can't walk in the sand. That is very hard to do even for me!! BUTOMG I LOVE Gulf Shores!! But honest to God, we do go on vacation within 15 miles of our home. hahahaha!! Nice get away & very convenient if I forget something!! We spent Christmas of last yr in beach condo. Perfect white sandy beach Christmas. Up before sun rise walking the beach and getting sea shells the tide left behind. I found 65 small sand dollars 1 day after a storm out to sea brought them in. Amazing!! My signs from Michelle & God is what the sea shells are to me. The beach is MY Church!! You feel God all around you there!! Is your daughter's condo on beach?

I have lived all over, yes, down south for many years, short tour in Okinawa, visited South Korea, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, lived in Arizona a few years (love it! - 6 climate zones in that state, folks don't realize AZ has it all, from desert to mountains!) and back to Massachusetts several times and bought and sold 6 houses over those years...now, at 60, I'm pretty worn out...just want a hot tub and a cuppa tea and my sweet hubby and rest and relaxation! LOL...Love PA, by the way, I'll never forget driving through "Intercourse" on our way to Allentown to deliver an office suite I sold on eBay; trailered it all the way there....so different there...those row houses, lol....

We were "full timers" in a motor home for 2 yrs. Wonderful life! We had planned on getting a new motor home & travel in the winters but then he had his stroke 5 yrs ago & can't see to drive so Plan A went out the window & we moved on Plan B. Just ended up buying house around Gulf Shores in southern Alabama & here we are. I loved traveling like that. Pull into a rest area many nights for the night. Stopped at a place for a week and ended up staying a month. Such a care free life style!! We had huge auction before we left in motor home. Now down here 3-4 yrs and I have so much stuff again. LOL!

Sounds HEAVENLY! Hate all this mortgage, taxes, insurance...2/3rds of my husband's paycheck goes to everyone else...not sure who said it but I have this on my FB timeline: Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass.

Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers, If he cries, tax his tears.

Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"
And when he's gone, we won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance tax.........

You have inspired me, will talk more to the hubby!

My daughter in AL family has a condo...in Destin? Is that near you?

Yes I have read that before & all true!! We worked hard for what we have & no 1 is entitled to it! Sometimes he didn't come home 2-3 days & we'd carry his food to Nashville for him. Busted butt!! But we actually saved $ while on the rd. We pd $400 a month down closer to beach to park MH there & that was with power & all utilies included. People can't believe we saved, but we did & put ourselves into a decent position for these difficult days/yrs. Destin is in Florida, just past Pensacola. About 30 min to Pensacola, not quite sure how much further to Destin but not far!!

She told me they just sold the condo...couldn't afford the HOA fees and attend meetings...she loved it there!

We couldn't afford the ins on 1 and yes, HOA fees thru the ceiling, but alot of them cover the outside structure in their HOA fees and ins. is for everything inside. I'd have loved being on the beach, but not financially able to do that ins!! 11 miles inland is high enough for ins!! Crazy prices!!

We had a timeshare in Sedona, had to foreclose on it, paid almost 30k for it but couldn't afford the HOA fees, either...we short saled on our home in Scottsdale and came back east with our tails between our legs....times were tough back in '08...
