Description

The listing, 7" Customized Android Netbook - Barely Used! has ended.

I recently obtained this ADORABLE, COMPACT netbook about 4 months ago...and then hubby got me a Kindle Fire for Valentine's Day :-) In addition, I also have two desktops and a laptop so keeping this cute-as-a-button unit was just too redundant!

The model number is X13-12056 and I customized it with a really pretty 'butterfly' skin with also protective skins that match on the inside keyboard and cover. I then flashed the drive from its Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Core to Android V1.5.2 (which could most likely be upgraded to the latest version of Android since it has done very well with this version: no crashing, and runs pretty speedy after startup.

I flashed the drive to Android simply because I didn't care for the lack of apps available for WinCE and was delighted when it worked and I was able to shop in the AppStore on Amazon, etc. YAY!

It has a decent small keyboard to work with and here are the rest of the specs:

The Netbook is highly portable and compact in its design, with good performance, adaptability and robustness. You’ll be able to surf the web wherever you go by using built in Wifi or plugging in an Ethernet cable. Three USB inputs provide plenty of connections for peripheral devices. Enjoy the freedom and mobility of the 7” Netbook. It is ideal for business people on the go, students, children and home users. You can surf the net, send emails, instant messaging, study, compose documents, manage accounts and spreadsheets, view PowerPoint presentations and lots of other work. You can watch movies and listen to music on the SD card or the Flash Drive.

More Info: It WILL NOT play YouTube videos for some crazy reason but DOES go to Listia just fine.

Thanks for watching! It's a great little unit and looks cute :-) Guys can peel the skins off (which kind of feel like linen cloth) and the unit itself is black (very shiny) with the keyboard as shown in the photo with silver.

Very Neat Laptop! You were Great with all the details! Although I am still trying to understand all the computer technology. LOL Still in the stoneage here! Does it play online games Such as Wizard 101 well? Asking because it would be shared with my son. I know some of the laptop's that I have seen listed the seller will state that that sometimes their item won't play online games very well so I just wanted to ask. Thanks!

The best way to explain it is that these units are similar to like, Iphones, for example. They use the mobile versions of websites and, unfortunately, often cannot play certain online/web games.

Remember: anything "Windows-based" is not going to run on this and you cannot 'import' setups from cd or anything else onto to make it do it. It wouldn't even do that on its original Windows CE version. The Android OS (which is on it now) WILL give you much better options to find other similar games....or games just as fun.

Just wondering...You say you can watch movies online with this until. Why then can't you watch youtube videos ?

You can watch movies and listen to music on the SD card or the Flash Drive as stated in the description. In other words, it won't 'stream' them.

Reason why it won't play Youtube videos is because I don't believe android supports flash. If there's a youtube app on the android store, I'm sure that's a way around.

Sorry if I missed it but -- is the flash disc space expandable?
Mar 8th, 2012 at 5:59:13 PM PST by
Original
Yeah, I think you're right about flash not getting along with Android. I'll bet, too, there's a way around it. I just haven't fooled with it; I'll let the new owner do that :-)

You know, I'm not sure if the flash disc space at 1GB is expandable. I DO know it handles any size sd card and usb drive I toss at it :-)

I don't know anything about a Android Netbook. I have been looking at a Kindle how does this compare?
Mar 12th, 2012 at 4:03:23 PM PDT by
Original
Wow, that's a loaded question because they're the same yet different. I would say there may be more apps on this unless you get a Kindle Fire---and at that, with mine, I've been limited to the Kindle App store (which is basically Android for Kindle). They both really do about the same thing, including reading Kindle books ("there's an app for that!"). I just haven't gone messing anymore because I would let the new owner start from where it's at now and upgrade to Android 2 (which will run on it---see specs).

Oh, I hear ya on that one. I spent over 33,000 credits on a seal-a-meal thing I really needed with all the dehydrating I do. I did 5 bags and then it stopped sealing. I tried to appeal to the seller who was going to try a fix on the web...but I'd already gone through them all. I'm afraid after trying to be nice about it, I'm going to have to dispute it. That's a LOT of credits, like this will be, and I certainly wouldn't want MY things back! Yikes!

Okay, I found a GORGEOUS, black leather case that not only works well for any gender, but it's padded and has an outside pocket on one side to store your sd cards (if you have more than one), power adapter, etc.

Now, where it really gets awesome is the other side 'pocket' actually opens up into the inner 'box' area and folds down. You can secure the netbook with the velcro straps inside and, because it comes down like a mini desk with triangular sides, you'd have a 'mat' under it.

In other words, the case is like it was made for this size-wise and with exactly what a traveler would like with being able to work on the system inside it's "desk/case!"

It also has the metal loops to secure a shoulder strap or you can use its own handle. I'd post pics but I no longer can edit the listing because it's so close to ending.

The only app I installed from the AppStore was the free 'flashlight' app to make sure it "took" okay. Other apps you would need to load yourself (and it's fun shopping for them, let me tell you!).

This unit CAN also be converted to Linux. From my own research, Puppy Linux seems to be the best. I do know that either Android or Linux are MUCH, MUCH better operating systems vs. WinCE---you have a lot more flexibility with free, public apps.
