It Is made of wood painted to look antique with flowers and scrolling, has velvety padding on the inside and on the bottom to keep it from running furniture. The padding on the bottom has a little hole and there is a stain on the bottom. It's nice for yourself but I wouldn't give as a "brand new gift "
