The listing, GAYLORD PERRY " ROOKIE CARD " has ended.
1962 Topps Gaylord Perry Rookie Card # 199 in Excellent Condition. No creases, good color, nice luster, great centering. This card not slabbed by a grading authority, however with 45 years experience in the hobby, I absolutely guarantee this card to be original and authentic. It's in beautiful shape for a 55 year old specimen.
Gaylord had a lifetime 314-265 win loss record with a 3.11 ERA and 3,534 strikeouts. He was a five time All Star, two time Cy Young Award Winner, three time wins leader. He threw a no hitter on September 17th, 1968. His uniform # 36 is retired with the San Francisco Giants. Inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1991. He is the first pitcher to win the Cy Young award in Both leagues. Despite Perry's notoriety for throwing spitballs, he was not actually ejected for this practice until August 23rd, 1982 in his 21st season in the majors. Manager Alvin Dark once said about Perry's inability to bat well, " They'll put a man on the moon before he hits a home run." On July 20th, 1969, just an hour after Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, Perry hit the first home run of his career.
Personal note: I hired Gaylord as a celebrity autograph guest for a baseball card show in Vancouver, Washington at the Inn at the Quay convention hall on July 2nd, 1988.
