Description

The listing, 1958 3 cent Horticulture U.S. Print Block has ended.

The 3-cent stamp honoring Gardening and Horticulture was issued through the Ithaca, New York, post office on March 15, 1958. The stamp was issued on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Liberty Hyde Bailey, a noted horticulturist, in conjunction with the centennial celebration in his honor sponsored by Cornell University.
Designed by Denver Gillen, the central subject of the Gardening-Horticulture stamp is a figure emblematic of the bountiful earth, holding a horn of plenty and surrounded by flowers, fruits, vegetables, and shrubs. The rose and columbine, two of the most popular flowers in the United States, appear in the upper right hand corner of the stamp. Across the top and extending down the right portion of the stamp is the wording "Gardening Horticulture." Below the design, arranged in one line, is "US Postage 3c."
This print block is in "New" condition and the glue is intact. It has been stored in a protctive sleeve since its purchase in 1958. There is a small ink blemish on the glue that happened when printed.( see in above photo)
