Description

The listing, SIGNED McKINNON Vintage 1949 Porcelain BIG EAR HANDLE PITCHER w/ Roses RARE has ended.

Up for auction is a whimsical J. H. McKinnon Ear Handle Pitcher in really nice condition! Adorned with rose buds!

This is a 2-1/4" pitcher, but including ear handle measures 3-3/4". These are hard to find. And of the few I have found, most are not signed, nor have a patent number.

Patent was applied for in 1947, and production was around 1949 by John H. McKinnon of Marshall, Texas. They were modeled after the "little pitchers have big ears", an old-time saying, referring to children listening to (or overhearing) adult conversations.

It is signed on the bottom, and with patent number 154691. No crazing, chips or cracks! White porcelain with pink roses, gold trim, and pink ears.

Unusual piece, and I was unable to find out if there were many produced, but it is unlikely, as there do not seem to be a great many available. I Googled it, but the few that were listed had already been sold, so the information was gone.

In any case, this is quite an unusual collectible! Smoke-free home.
