Matsuzaka was a highly touted Japanese pitcher who finished 4th in Rookie of the Year voting in 2007 after a 15 win campaign during which he also pitched in the World Series for the Red Sox. In 2008, he had a season for the ages, compiling an 18-3 record while leading the Red Sox charge into another postseason. He was MVP of the 2009 World Baseball Classic for Japan, the country to which he returned to pitch following the 2014 MLB season.
