Description

The listing, UNCIRCULATED 1948 SILVER FRANKLIN HALF DOLLAR has ended.

This auction is for an Uncirculated 1948 Silver Franklin Half Dollar.
This coin is another one that just goes to show why coins should never be stored or delivered in 100 count bags. The obverse shows the bag marks on it and the reverse tells how it could have been graded as a "FULL BELL LINES" coin. Even the wording on the bell itself is showing still. There is nothing more annoying than to send a coin off to be graded and have it return with a MS64 or MS65 W/Details and those details being the bag marks on it.

The scans above are of the actual item that you will receive, and are provided for you to determine the condition and/or grade of it.
I am no longer accepting GIN offers for my auctions, everyone now gets a shot at bidding.
If you really would like for a GIN to be added for you, I do not have the 5 Million credit badge yet, so that will be the GIN.
The winner will receive this via FREE SHIPPING W/Tracking.
Remember that all Listia rules apply.

Now that the holidays are over with, the Post Office has been doing a better job of getting packages to their destination in a timely manner, but not all of them. Some are still taking up to a week (or more) for no special or evident reason.
Just let it be known that all items will be sent the next available day after end of auction, for I actually go to the Post Office and pay the Postage and Tracking in person so that you will receive your item as soon as possible. I also check all Tracking numbers daily and will keep you informed of anything that is out of the ordinary.
Thank you for your interest in my auctions and stopping by to view them.

Have never seen "Details" grade because of Bag Marks?

I have seen it twice actually. even though they did not use the exact words of "bag marks" it was labelled "contact marks", which I especially consider to be bag marks. the second was "reeding marks" but that does not come from the bags I suppose, that would come from contact straight from the mint.

That's crazy! I'd be pretty upset if I ever shell out $60+ and ever get that back. Still a nice Franklin I'd be surprised if they pulled that.

I doubt that you would ever see it these days. there are so many coins that end up with grades because the mint has gotten better at not just blasting coins into a bin that are to be considered Uncirculated like they do with business strikes. the coin just would not receive a grade. In fact I do not think that I have seen a description including "details" on it for a long time other than "cleaned" included as the details

I have to take that last statement back... I just remembered one of mine that came back with "obverse scratch" as the detail. and I never saw the scratch until it was brought to my attention. :(

Ya I was always under the impression they consider bag/bin marks a mint error and typically drop a point at worst depending on severity. That's definitely a situation to keep in mind sending out old silver and gold though thanks for the info.

Oh. Well that sucks too! I completely obsess over what I send out. If I have doubles, unless the unslabbed is higher than I own it's not going anywhere simply because of the outrageous fees. Things like that unseen scratch drive me nuts! I have had that happen with Anacs. They used to love shelling out details grades not sure if that's still the case or I've just gotten better at decisions lol
