The 2007-PD Mint Set is highly collectible for three major reasons:
First, it features the very first Presidential Dollars from the U.S. Mint series. The Presidents depicted are George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. Their portraits appear on the obverse of each coin with a common portrayal of the Statue of Liberty on the reverse. The coin series features incused edge lettering, which contains the date, mint mark, and the mottoes “E Pluribus Unum” and “In God We Trust”. They feature the same golden alloy used for the Sacagawea Dollar.
Secondly, it also includes the five designs released for the State Quarters Program, featuring Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah. The remaining coins are the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Kennedy Half Dollar, and Sacagawea Dollar. All coins utilize the satin finish, which had been introduced for the annual set in 2005. Around this time, the US Mint began to refer to the satin finish versions as “uncirculated versions”.
And lastly, the set is packaged in two separate blister pack folders. The outer flap includes illustrations of the Denver and Philadelphia skylines. Folders open to reveal 14 coins from each mint, sealed in individual blisters which allow both sides of the coins, as well as the edges to be seen. The back side of the flap includes coin specification information and a certification of authenticity.
The original issue price for the 2007 Mint Set was $22.95, reflecting an increase of $6 per set. Meanwhile, the face value of the coins included in each set had increased by $8.
