awesome phone, I have one and I loved it. switched to at&t but verizon has much better apps then apple. you only need the plan to use the phone #. I always use the apps and I no longer have a plan. as long as there is wifi around you can use the phone. i can still down load apps and use all of the ones I put on there before I cancelled w/verizon. i hope that info can help someone. good luck w/your auction. if I didnt already have one I would be all over this. one of the best phones I have used. :-)

it does have wifi abiity but this phone like most phones require a data plan unless you flash the phone to a similar different cell phone provider that does not require a data plan.

the phone works great and it has never received water damage. battery life is long and ive never had problems with it. alot of times with phones like the droid eris dust can get though the cracks which means humidity and other things can get in as well. it has been found that stickers like that are not always 100% reliable. many people who have phones can have that sticker turn red with no water damage and those who have had water damage the sticker does not turn red. vice versa. after all it is only a sticker but the answer is no, its never had water damage.

since Verizon is cdma, you could flash it to another cdma carrier like cricket or boost.

yes, thanks for mentioning that. you just have to make sure the carrier you are using uses cdma (code division multiple access) as some carriers like t-mobile and at&t use gsm (global system for mobile) and not cdma.

does it have a clean esn number (meaning no past billed owed, if there is a past due bill on this phone it will have a bad esn number where no one can use it)

there's no past bill owed; it is a clean esn number phone. I currently and for a long time have my own service account with verizon. I recently got a new phone and just don't have use for this one now. thanks for asking. good question.
