Yes, with the thread on them, they are more valuable. Some people want the thread to fix old quilts to keep them authentic with older thread.

It doesn't make a difference to me. I will pay just as high for empties as I will for threaded. I look for the ones that have writing on them, and pay the highest. Si, the older the better. The oldest don't have labels on them. They have the customers name. My grandma used to take the spooks to the store and they would refill the wooden spool.
So, if you want to use your thread it won't deter me.

Older thread is 109% cotton, or silk, etc. I don't use old thread to restore quilts. IT MIGHT BE DRY ROTTED FOR GOONESS sakes. It's ok for a small project but I would never use old thread
