Hello missyburch, Yes they work with batteries (tap the photo to see battery). There's a switch to turn off & on. They are dim flickering lights that give the illusion of actual burning candles.

There are three (3) candles not too much bigger than the size of a quarter.

i'm not stupid- i know how these work. i was asking if these were in working order or if they needed new batteries since your info stated batteries not included. why show a photo of batteries if you're not including them? seems kind of redundant.

I thought they were disposable. Once the battery exhausts itself you throw it away.
