These endured throughout the United States for more than a century--then sort of faded awau om a dazzle of chrome and neon. 166 page, good condition hardcover w/DJ; ex-church library book, but clean and tight inside. DJ has a couple of small tears...just needs a little tape. (Skimming this book brought back lots of memories of my Granny. Yep, we made lye soap; punched the clothes in the old iron washpot, careful of the fire under it; pushed them up and down on the rubboard; churned butter in the old crock churn with the wooden "dasher" on a pole handle; found chicken nests in the barn hay loaf; pounded the yeast rolls dough so it could rise again; ate lots of the trimmings from rolls & biscuits that Granny pushed to the edge, telling me that raw dough was not good for little boys; carried in firewood for the cookstove and stood some years later and watched her cry as it was carried out and replaced with a gas range. I can honestly say: My parents did not spoil me (much), but Granny.......)
