Description

The listing, Vintage Wood Coo-Coo CLOCK Swiss German has ended.

When i was a child(50 yrs ago) my dad worked at Goodwill for awhile teaching and also in the wood shop making furniture. One of the things he collected and fixed at home was coo-coo clocks, big, small, all sizes and styles. I have no room to hang this little fella- so here it goes. ( I have a big one on my wall)

All wood, no plastic. Has a key hole to wind but no key(never was on any he had) It's a skeleton barrel key, perhaps the new owner can find a perfect fit? It is hand carved wood of birds and leaves, true nature and woodland style. I see nothing broken or cracked. It has been in safe storage for MANY years. The face is about 1-1/2 inch diameter with gold trim and numbers. The white ornate hands are secure and movable. Please enlarge all the pictures. Both weights are present as well as the moving chains when it is wound. I've shown pictures from many angles, the pine cone either brass or gold plated weights are traditional design and on old but secure chain. The spring mechanism is shown and intact. I believe it only needs winding, but carefully and with the correct key! Perhaps a clock maker has one? A jeweler? It has a brass ring for hanging and the clock sits about 2 inches from the wall. The overall length and width is 4 inches wide and 5-1/2 inches long. Petite thing!
It's in very good vintage condition and a perfect gift. He only took in German or Swiss made clocks so this is either but any marking is gone or I can't see it! perhaps it's inside. He used to fix the coo-coo bellows and any wood needing replacement got his carving hand (he's 91 now!). Packed carefully for shipment!
Give it a good home, someone!
No GIN- good luck to all!

It appears to be to small for a door or bird. If I remember correctly, it has bellows that coo. They will not work unless round with the correct key.

Maybe for a dollhouse? Just a thought! Very cute! Best of luck with it!

It's quite big for a doll house! If the doll house was six or seven feet tall then perhaps!

Lol! I guess some are!! id you know there is also a large group of miniature collectors? If the face is only 1"(Is that right? and the total size is 4 or 41/2" I would think it would qualify as a miniature. Or maybe this was a salesman's sample?
It does actually work?

IF I am not mistaken, this is an Black Forest Emil Schmeckenbecher clock made in West Germany. My mom had one when I was a child... 40 years ago, that was killed in a car accident. The clock... not my mom. Possible a 1 or 3 day clock. Definitely will be watching this!!

Nice piece of information! Thank you so much for posting it, it is very interesting. All of my dads clocks were either Swiss or German so this falls into that area too. Of course West Germany does not exist anymore. Thank you so much for posting the information.

Mine didn't have a key but we have a clock shop in my tiny town and I got a key for $5.00 so that is an easy fix for the winner of your auction.

you are lucky to have a clock shop that may have a key. One person below on the comments already thinks she has one, so they must be out there. Knowing the size barrel is important...

Yes it I'd handy but if you need a repair that isn't just a cleaning and oil it tends to take a long time.

clock makers and such usually have lots of work and it can be tedious. I had a wall GF clock fixed years ago, took a couple weeks if i recall. Plenty worth it tho!

I could keep any clock maker busy for a long time. I have 6 hanging GF clocks and 2 anniversary dome clocks. Some were handed down from my great grandmother to gma to my mom to me. It's worth the cost to get that one running again. It's between 100-130 years old.

I have mine set the same also - Well most of the time and hearing them all home brings back Happy memories of my childhood and I still hear them when I visit my parents place. I wish my dad was a clock tinker instead od a roofer :-) i would have been able to learn so much about them.

I know someone who has over 200 and they were all set to go off same time. If one didn't he knew it had to be fixed.

My dad had quite a few many years ago on the columns of our basement and they'd all go off too. It was fun to hear them!

Oh I did not get that impression at all! It is wonderful to like old clocks I do too, maybe not as much as you do but as I look around my room I guess I'm pretty close to it because I have a lot of old clocks on the wall!

Wow Nice clock. I noticed it because I'm listing mine tomorrow the only deference is mine is all metal. not wood. Does yours still work too. I was so suprised when it actually worked after all this time. Good luck with your auction F&W

I saw a metal one on here before, never have seen one in person tho. Hand carved wood is so sweet and I love the craftsmanship of this one. Mine works just has no key.

The weights are the key to winding. If you pull the chains down the weights go up and when pendulum switch gs the weights will go down and run clock. Should need wound daily. I have 2 absolutely love them. Unless it a mini replica? Then key hole s/b on face above 6 ?? Good luck
Aug 15th, 2015 at 5:27:00 AM PDT by
Original
I suspect the weights "may" be for show, they are very light weight, not like my big clock where they are 4-5 oz each! Yes on the big one, the weights wind the clock, I really believe the KEY is what winds this one. Just don't have one.
