If you have a scrap metal dealer near you...there may be 40-50 bucks in carbide here in your lot...not to mention the HPS steel.( high speed steel)...just a thought...good luck man.

I assume these are 1/4" as they look too small to be 1/2"

Well these are Craftsman and like most bits now a days the would just have carbide blade tips just like saw blades. The only items that would be made of solid carbide would be high end reloading dies for bullets and perhaps bis for metal lathes but not wood working tools
