BOULDER OPAL Roughs, Good Shine and Fire, 6g, 21mmX19mmX6mm

Boulder opal forms on ironstone boulders in Queensland. This type of opal is often cut with the ironstone left on the back, as the opal seam is usually quite thin. Leaving the ironstone on the back means that boulder opal can be very dark and beautiful in color. The opal forms within the cavities of the boulders in both vertical and horizontal cracks. Boulders vary in shape and size, from as small as a pea, to as big as a family car. Boulder Opal has a tendency to cleave; when cleaved the "split" leaves two faces of opal, with a naturally polished face. This phenomenon is due to the angle the microstructure of the opal originally grew. The opal cutter commonly finishes the opal, with the natural opal veneer exposed with ironstone backing. Although Queensland produces other forms of opal, sandstone opal as pipe and seam and matrix, which are often found at the same mine, it is the Boulder Opal that is most sought.

Australian Boulder Opal represents purity and intensity. It assists in emotional and mental balance, calms the inner soul. Facilitates actualization. Excellent stone for progress, expansion, and development. Helps one connect the conscious and subconscious, providing for a clearing understanding of oneself. Facilitates communication between the Earth plane and the star people of this world and other worlds. Clears and brightens the aura, stimulates healing. It has been used to access spiritual guides and animal guides. It can be used in medicine-wheel ceremony to stabilize energy

I think so, I originally bought this piece with the intention of doing just that, but, as you know I got side tracked! It might require a specialty attachment or cut off wheel to work the opal, and I don't know exactly where to look for answers (though my 1st stop would be Youtube), but SOMEONE has the answers on the world wide web, so maybe I'll try to find them...

Well, click on my Profile Picture, scroll down to where it says 'Contact crookedman' on the left hand margin, and send me a private message with your best offer for a GIN bid, and if I feel like it reflects a Reasonable facsimile of what I can expect to earn from the auction by letting it run the full time, I may put in a GIN for you. That's all depending on whether or not there has been a bid by that time...a GIN can not be initiated once a bid has been made on the auction. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you!
Namaste!

Sorry, this piece actually cost me quite a bit of $ a few years back when I was taking courses for a cert. as Bench Jeweler. Despite my failure as a photog, the piece has quite a lot of shine and fire, and that's what's showing on the surface! These B. Opals are like little treasure chests, ther can often be more than one nice opal found in them! It's just the sort of thing that can bring big interest, and big bids if people see it and several get to competing for it. And I don't have a lot of 1st hand knowledge as to how to put a realistic value on it, so I left it for you guys to work it out... you've still got nearly 17 days...!

Marieve, are you looking for round beads, nuggets, freeform or chips, and if one of the former, what size, 8mm, 9mm, 10 or 12 mm? Give me some idea of what you need to finish the necklace, and I'll let you know when I'll have it available for you.

Hello Victor Regarding the Charoite ,My first thought was pendant but I can make a pendant. Surprise me
8 mm beads. I use wire and tiger tail. I can make a loop with wire to hold a Cabochon.
The stones I wish iI could find for jewellery making are: Turquoise, Chalcedony, Amazonite, Moonstone, Opals.
;) you Rock ;)

Well, for Amazonite I have you covered, nice roughs, 1-2" x !-2"...I've sawn and formed these same pieces, and polished it up, and it makes for beautiful SLAB/CAB, I was making Pendants, but same principal. You could also tumble them for nice looking tumblestones. I have a small supply of Turquoise nuggets, and a few pieces besides...I don't try to work it because as expensive as it has gotten, If I screwed it up I don't know if I could afford to replace it, lol! I have a few pieces of moonstone roughs, I think, let me look into that before I get to fibbin' to you. We've talked Opals before, you and I, haven't we, or was that someone else? Didn't I direct your attention to the set of 8 matched Opal Doublets that I have listed? In any case, I have Opals, and can send you pics, but we'll need to discuss the deal on them. As far as Chalcedony, I love the stuff, and I have a few pieces, but it's awfully FRAGILE for jewelry making, isn't it, I can't imagine how you'd do it, unless perhaps we're talking about different formations...what I have is a Druzy sort of deposit on top of matrix, with delicate little crystals elevating from the druzy.

Now, on the Charoite, you want 8mm for the beads...do you want them a uniform sphere, or more of an organic, nugget shape? And you say you want something suitable for a pendant, as well, and freeform is acceptable? And, finally, approximately how many of the beads will you be wanting? Ih, and do you want them faceted or smooth?

Alright, I think that covers everything. Have a great day, and get back to me on the above as soon as you can, so I can get on top of it for you! As always, I stand ready and eager to serve, only loose my fetters and let me fly! May you find Peace and happiness within your heart, and may harmony and abundance manifest gently in your life!
Namaste!
Blessed be,
Victor

Ok Yes, I will take a look , too, Thanks if you find anything, drop me a note! I can just use a special sandpaper I have for stone carving , but I'd love to do something a bit intricate. like a flower or horse head(did you see the opal glass horsehead someone just sold here? I love the idea of that but wit real opal!! That would be especially kool!

Yeah, i have an eye for opalite! (I love the stuff, such a really cool deep smokey glow, hard to describe) but I saw the horse...I was joking with her, about going all trans-gender on us, lol! She adverted it as a Stallions Head, then spent most of the description talking about how cool 'she' was and she would have hung 'her' from the rearview mirror but thieves might break the window, thinking 'she' was more valuable than the car...etc...I don't think she had a chance to reply before it ended. I think it ended at 32,000...
