The listing, 1972 Topps #33 BILLY MARTIN (Tigers) Legendary Manager! has ended.
This is an original vintage 1972 Topps #33 BILLY MARTIN baseball card.
Martin is one of the most legendary managers to ever manage in MLB.
Martin, whose 12 year playing career saw him playing alongside the likes of Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Al Kaline, Hank Killebrew, would not be remembered for his playing career, despite collecting four World Series rings with the Yankees in the 1950s. He wasn't even going to be remembered for his remarkable managerial career, which saw him helm 1253 career wins and a 5th World Series ring (1977). He's remembered for The Feud. Martin, who first managed with the Twins, Tigers, and Rangers between 1969-1975 (his fiery temper causing him his first job with the Twins after his first season, a 97 win playoff season, because he had knocked out two of his own players in an alley fight), martin took the helm for the new York Yankees in 1975 ... for the first time. Martin clashed consistently with owner George Steinbrenner, resigning his post in 1978, being rehired in 1979, only to be fired after a fight following the 1979 season. He would be hired 3 more times to manage the Yankees, in 1983, 1985, and 1988, and was preparing to manage them for a 6th time in 1990 when he died in a Christmas Day auto accident in December 1989.
Card looks great, and will grade in excellent to EX-MT condition.
