Of course you can! And as to why I removed it, well, the battery was dead. It still plays just fine without the battery, but it can't save.

I'll have a picture posted later today with my user name on it.

Yes? Inside the cartridge is a battery used to save the game. The one in this game is dead, so I had it removed. It still plays, you just can't save.

Yup! The batteries have a life of about fifteen years, so many of them are dying in the older games.
