A third baseman who's fielding tools were comparable to those of Brooks Robinson, Schmidt was a far superior hitter to baseball's "greatest third baseman". Schmidt bombed 548 home runs in his career (including leading the league in home runs 8 times) while winning 10 Gold Gloves and playing on 12 All Star teams. As of the time he retired, is 3 National League MVP Awards were tied with Roy Campanella and Stan Musial for the most in league history (since surpassed by Barry Bonds).
