It could be used in that way. Not to bright it is the size of a light bulb so if your in a small space it would work well. You could move it to suit your viewing needs for light.

I don't look at the bulb, we have them in dark places and in our travel trailer. They give good soft light. Thats a hard question, what may be bright to you may not be that bright to me
