The listing, 1965 Topps #457 BOB KENNEDY (Cubs) Hi #, Nice value! has ended.
1965 Topps was released in several series, with the high number series being the least printed series and hardest to find. Card has a book value of $15.
Kennedy played in nearly 1500 games over 16 MLB seasons (missing 3 years due to service in WWII), debuting with the White Sox in 1939 and collecting MVP votes as an official rookie in 1940 (There was no "Rookie of the Year" award in 1940, that award was not introduced until 1947). He retired as a player in 1957, but returned to Chicago in 1960 to join the Chicago Cubs coaching staff, and in 1963 ascended to the "head coach" position (Chicago had no official manager, and had a revolving cast of coaches at that time); he kept the title for 3 seasons, largely on the strength of his 1963 campaign, when he led the Cubs to their first winning season in 16 years. In 1968, Kennedy managed the Athletics during their first season in Oakland.
