The listing, serrano chili peppers has ended.
Serrano Peppers can be sown directly after danger of frost has passed but similar to Jalapenos they benefit from being started indoors and transplanted. The soil should be well drained, slightly basic and ideally mulched. Let soil dry out in between watering and it may be necessary to provide support for a large Serrano.
Serrano peppers are perennial vegetables, with a low tolerance for frost. The serrano pepper originates in Mexico and grows to about 18 " with a spread of 12 ".
Mature Serrano pepper plants reach a height of between one and a half and five feet tall (450mm to 1500mm). Each plant can hold up to fifty pepper pods. Unripe Serrano peppers are green, but the color at maturity varies. Common colors are green, red, brown, orange, or yellow. Because Serrano peppers produce many peppers per plant, most gardeners will only need to plant one or two to harvest more than enough peppers. Serrano pepper plants are also vigorous, doing well in even relatively poor growing conditions.
