The listing, 1964 Topps AL LOPEZ (White Sox) Hall of Famer! has ended.
This is a 1964 Topps #232 AL LOPEZ baseball card.
A 2-time All Star at catcher, Lopez collected over 1500 hits as a major leaguer (nice number for a catcher), nd set a MLB record for games caught that would not be surpassed for 40 years, but is even better known as a manager. He won 1410 games as a MLB manager, and managed both the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox into the World Series (1954 and 1959, respectively). In 1960, rumors circulated that he had been fingered to replace Casey Stengel as the manager of the Yankees, but he refused the job, managing to keep the White Sox over .500 for the endurance of his tenure there, and never had a losing season in 15 years as a MLB manager. He was inducted into Cooperstown in 1977.
